Read a Reel without turning the sound on
Many Reels are posted without captions, which is a problem when you are scrolling on a train with the sound off, or when you want to note down a tip someone shared in a fast-paced clip. transcription.page turns a public Reel or Instagram video post into plain text from its link. The audio is transcribed with the Whisper speech recognition model, and the words come back as readable paragraphs you can copy, search or save.
It is also a simple way to pull a quote for a carousel, a caption or a story, or to keep a written copy of the advice, recipe steps or book recommendations shared in your favourite Reels. Everything works in your phone's browser, with no app to install and no account to create.

Instagram Reel transcript questions
Can I transcribe a Reel from a private account?
No. Reels from private accounts are only visible to approved followers, and our server isn't logged in to Instagram, so it can't access them. The Reel or video post has to come from a public account. Stories and live videos are not supported either, only Reels and video posts.
The Reel has no captions. Can I still get the text?
Yes, that is exactly what the tool is for. The audio is downloaded temporarily to our server and transcribed with OpenAI's Whisper speech recognition model, then deleted. You get the spoken words as text even when the creator didn't add any captions.
Why is my Reel transcript empty?
Usually because there isn't much speech to transcribe. Many Reels use a trending song, music only or text on screen instead of a voice. The tool transcribes spoken words, not music lyrics shown on screen or written text in the video. Reels with someone talking to the camera or a voiceover work best.
Can I quote a Reel in my own post?
You can copy any sentence from the transcript in a tap. If you quote someone else's Reel, credit the creator and stay within what you have the right to use. For your own Reels, the transcript is a quick way to turn what you said on camera into a caption or a written post.
Does it work from the Instagram app on my phone?
Yes. Copy the link from the Instagram app, open transcription.page in your phone's browser and paste it. There is nothing to install and no account to create. The transcript is shown on the page and you can copy it straight back into Instagram or your notes app.
